5 Winter Wardrobe Essentials

by Letizia De Antoniis @yorokobiness

No matter if you love winter or if you just live it waiting for spring, what really counts is that we need to survive the cold season, so better if we do it with style and choosing some clothes we really love and need.

My idea is that it is always worth investing in good quality, long-lasting, ethical options that I will wear not only for one season, but also in future winters to come.

With that in mind, here are my top five winter picks for ethical essentials that will keep you warm, comfortable, and stylish at the same time. For every pick, I’ve found a “perfect pairing” with knitted accessories designed and hand-made using some of the luxurious yarns by Amano.

  1. Classic Camel Coat

How would I survive winter without a coat? A classic color like camel is always a safe choice, will take you anywhere — from the office to dinner, and anywhere in between. You can throw it on over jeans and a casual sweater and look instantly chic.

Perfect match: Barranco Beanie

It is a super soft, cozy and warm beanie, hand knitted by me with Mamacha yarn (70% baby alpaca | 30% merino wool). It is inspired by Barranco, which is a Lima district, considered to be the city's most romantic and bohemian, being the home and working place of many of Peru's leading artists, musicians, designers and photographers.

  1. High Waisted Jeans

Jeans probably never really go out of style, either, because they’re timeless, and democratic; everyone can find their perfect pair.

The trend is going for ‘90s look, high waisted and a little groovy jeans. Wear them with a heel or your favorite sneakers, they’re definitely more elegant than you can imagine.

Perfect match: Mikaela Pullover

Pattern by Martha Wissing made with Colca yarn (56% Baby llama | 44% Silk). The Colca region in Peru is a place of incomparable beauty, deep rocky canyons.

  1. Neutral Down Jacket

I prefer coats, but I have to admit that in case of strong cold weather puffy down jacket can be the best solution, better if you have a good one, maybe a neutral color like natural beige or black so you can wear it anytime.

Perfect match: Misti Beanie

This is one of my recent creations, designed when I met for the first time the super chunky Yana XL (which completely won my heart!). Made with 100% fine highland wool

, Misti Beanie is inspired by the great volcano of Arequipa called El Misti.

  1. Eco Fur Coat

It is a trend of this FW18-19, faux fur not only is the coziest jacket to wear all season long, but it also dresses up any outfits adding a touch of luxury.

Perfect match: Abrazo Turban

Hand knitted by me with Mamacha (70% baby alpaca | 30% merino wool), Abrazo is a super soft, cozy and chunky headband, available in many amazing mélange colors.

  1. Black Leather Jacket

No cold weather fashion guide would be complete without a leather jacket. This winter essential is a must-have for spring as well; they come in many different colors, shapes and sizes but I would opt for a classic black cropped fit to dress up any look.

Perfect match: Nazca Beanie.

Inspired by The Nazca Lines, a group of very large trenches in the Nazca Desert, in southern Peru, Nazca Beanie is soft, cozy and warm with a giant pompom, I have hand knitted it with Mamacha yarn (70% baby alpaca | 30% merino wool).
